My HOA is going to get an earful from me next Thursday. They sent a letter out saying they're having a meeting to discuss a "one time special assessment fee." The gist is, so many people in the neighborhood haven't been paying their dues (I could've told you that, 6 houses on my side of the neighborhood have been abandoned to foreclosure or foreclosed on already) that the HOA needs to charge those of us that HAVE been paying even more money to keep their crap going. Yeah, I'm carefully planning out how I am going to politely and eloquently tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Of course, with everything going on with the government and talk of taxes going up, the cost of healthcare, etc. I think one more "hey, we want your money" letter finally just pushed me to the breaking point. I'm glad the meeting is a week away, it gives me time to formulate an educated and even tempered response to them. Always get a better response when you go in level-headed. And then I'll fix up my house and put it up for sale and be sure to send every member on the HOA board a colorful card informing them of my departure.
