"In an echo of a line he used often on the campaign trail last year, Obama vowed in a February address to the U.S. Congress to make the tax code more fair by "finally ending the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas."
Currently, U.S. firms are allowed to defer paying taxes on profits earned overseas if they plow those profits back into their foreign subsidiaries.
Critics say those rules encourage businesses to bolster their foreign operations instead of creating jobs at home.
But an array of firms signed onto a letter to congressional leaders in March opposing changes to the so-called deferral provision, saying they would make U.S. businesses less competitive."
When will they ever learn that it's the tax system that has sent millions of jobs overseas and that by raising taxes not only will the companies send more jobs overseas, but that the companies themselves will follow ????? These a$$clowns always preach tax fairness, but here's an example of their fairness. According to the last figures I could find the IRS says that the average family had $51K in income and paid $9.1K in taxes (IRS figures for 2004). Using those numbers I should be paying $45.5K in taxes if we're talking equal multiples, or fair multiples, of taxes. Yet I got slammed with $85.5K in taxes. Can anyone, ANYONE, anywhere, explain to me how that is "fair"? If I had paid my 'fair share', I could have hired another person for my business, but nooooooo, that wouldn't be fair because somehow that would have been a 'tax break for the rich' or an 'unfair loophole in the tax code'.
I'm very close to saying to hell with them, buryig my ill gotten goods and putting my employees on the government dole. Honestly, I think the politicians would prefer it that way.
OK, rant off.
